Outer Delft Water Walk
We walk all the way down Korftlaan to the Bieslandse Bovenpolder pumping station, till just before the A13 motorway. This is about 1150 meters. You can also take a shorter route through the woods back to the parking lot, but then you do not pass stop 7. Then, after about 850 meters, immediately after the Delftse Hout holiday park, turn right and follow the path to the parking lot.
Just before the pumping station, you find “De Papaver” on your left and “BuytenDelft” on your right, with its urban farm and water playground. De Papaver Sustainability Center is Delft’s center for sustainability, nature, and environmental education. Accessible and engaging for all ages. At BuytenDelft, you can experience nature, animals, and water with a wide range of activities for all ages.
The Bieslandse Bovenpolder pumping station has a maximum capacity of 42 m³/minute and pumps water from -2.14 m NAP to the water level of the Rhine-Schie Canal (the Boezem), which is -0.43 m NAP. This pumping station is also equipped with a fish ladder. This pumping station marks the beginning of the Bieslandse Molensloot, the Binneboezem that runs to the Bieslandse Polder pumping station, thus along the entire route along Korftlaan, which we passed. The “Water management in the polders northeast of Delft” chapter explains how this Binnenboezem regulates the polder water level in parts of the Bieslandse Bovenpolder and the Bieslandse Polder.
The we turn right, walk along the A13 motorway, back to our starting point.
Other sights
There are many other interesting places in the polders northeast of Delft. However, they are a bit further away and must be visited by bike. This can be combined easily with the walk described above, as you can also complete it entirely by bike.
We cycle along the Hazepad, following the Tweemolentjesvaart canal, towards Dobbeplas, all the way to Nootdorp.
